Ardence creates a virtual disk - a vDisk - of a desktop's operating system and applications by taking a snapshot of the OS and application image and storing the image as a file on the network. When the computer is powered up, instead of booting from a local hard disk, the PC will boot from the vDisk The computer starts running the assigned configuration immediately - no waiting to download the entire OS. Ardence Desktop Edition supports streaming of Microsoft (including Vista) and Linux operating systems., and provides built-in port-blocking capabilities. The Ardence Software-Streaming Platform is the answer to true on-demand computing in the data center. In an Ardence architecture, the number of servers needed to maintain the existing service level agreement can be reduced by 15-50%. All of the servers are running diskless, and the OS and applications are streamed on-demand from network storage to these stateless devices. Servers can be provisioned from bare metal in the time it takes to reboot, allowing customers to take on new business opportunities and scale in/scale out in a matter of minutes.
