Application Delivery Services

With streaming, virtualisation and isolation options now available, together with 1st class packaging and deployment tools, how should organisations choose their delivery method?  Centralis specialise in a range of delivery tools that allow organisations to get application access to users by the most cost-effective method wherever they are and whatever client device they are using.

Application Packaging and Delivery Services

Delivering applications securely to their point of use has been at the heart of Centralis' business for twelve years.  We can help deploy applications to servers, desktops, virtual desktops or laptops (or a mixture of all of the above).  We can also help determine whether the application needs to be streamed, isolated or virtualised (or all of the above).  Within the service Centralis has the practical experience, methodology and vendor certification to ensure successful delivery via application packaging, streaming and virtualisation.

Application streaming greatly simplifies the process of delivering applications by removing the need for local installation.  A single, shared install of the application is also much easier to patch and upgrade, with significant benefits around testing and roll-back.

Centralis has invested significant R&D resource into streaming, becoming one of the spearhead partners for the Citrix application streaming built into the Platinum and Enterprise Editions of Citrix XenApp (the new name for Citrix Presentation Server), as well as becoming the first EMEA Platinum Partner for Thinstall (recently acquired by VMware).  Centralis is also a Gold partner of Microsoft, where their SoftGrid product provides similar functionality.

Application streaming allows administrators to easily provision new applications or issue updates to existing applications without having to modify the base operating system. Streaming also allows a single copy of the application to be held, and therefore updated, centrally.  This means that patches and updates can be picked up and distributed automatically.

Streaming gives IT administrators the granular control they need to ensure the consistency of deployed software across the enterprise. It also dramatically reduces the IT time and costs associated with deploying and maintaining software across the enterprise. By deploying operating system and applications patches centrally, downtime and IT staff time is greatly reduced. When a user reboots their device or re-launches an application the streamed software is upgraded to the latest patch level.

Streaming also uses "isolation", preventing applications from affecting the base installation of the client device or server they are being deployed to.  Streaming within the Citrix product set uses Application Isolation Environments, and includes the ability to stream applications for off-line use.

Thinstall offers the least impact of application on the client, allowing applications to be deployed with no need for supporting infrastructure or local client installation.

Application Packaging

Application packaging is an essential part of ensuring that an application will function correctly when deployed to a user.  Centralis has extensive application packaging experience, covering many hundreds of business and personal productivity packages. We use our experience of delivering these applications to our customers to provide secure, well performing installations which are customised to the customers preferred configurations.

The Centralis Application Packaging Service includes creation, initial testing and documentation of a packaged application installation. Centralis recommend the use of Acresso's AdminStudio (formerly Macrovision AdminStudio) to package and / or deploy applications. The advanced packaging offered by AdminStudio not only allows the creation of customised packages, but also provide comprehensive conflict analysis, corporate standards and rules-based processing.

Packaging is typically carried out on a fixed-price basis, with special consideration given to the requirements for complex, legacy or inter-dependent applications.  Application packages can be created for use with any of the major streaming packages and deployed to any desktop delivery environment, including Citrix XenApp Servers, VDI (Virtual Desktops) and off-line users.

Application Virtualisation

Deploying applications via Citrix XenApp (the new name for Citrix Presentation Server) remains one of the most flexible and cost-effective means of delivering applications to large numbers of users.  If you are looking to deliver applications over WAN connections, satellite links, or just need to minimise cost of application ownership, Citrix XenApp remains one of the best options available.

Centralis provide:

  • Proof of Delivery
Trial of a proposed solution by delivering a production quality environment.
  • Health Check
Projects to investigate a customer’s current situation and requirements and compare settings against best practice.
  • Architecture Design
Creating the ideal Citrix, Microsoft (and Novell where required) environment for your infrastructure and strategic requirements.
  • Secure Web / VPN Delivery
Configuring secure SSL VPN browser access to applications both within and outside the organisation, including end-point analysis and granular access to respond to client settings.
