Centralis Analysis and Design Services

Matching a solution to customer requirement means understanding the customer's existing investments and infrastructure as well as their immediate and longer-term goals.  Building from a structured requirements analysis to a documented design ensures that the built environment is resilient, strategic and fit for purpose.

"Centralis quickly stood out as leaders in their field with a clear understanding of current technology and how it can be applied to the needs and challenges faced by businesses today.

If you are considering projects similar to ours you really need to add these guys to your shortlist, I can highly recommend them. "

Barry Foster, I.T. Manager, Moat Housing Group

"We initially engaged Centralis to undertake a review of our Citrix-based remote access solution. We were impressed by their structured approach that demonstrated a clear knowledge and expertise, together with an ability to deliver.

As a result of this successful engagement, we have continued to work closely with Centralis to develop and improve our Citrix infrastructure that provides our global workforce with access to key Standard Life applications."

Andrew Gordon,
Senior Architect,
Standard Life

At Centralis we take analysis and design very seriously, because experience tells us that solutions deployed without proper analysis and without a documented design fail more often and more quickly.

Why?  Because your solution must take into consideration the key business drivers and challenges facing your organisation.  These may include business continuity, flexible working, mobility, growth plans, acquisitions and security.

It is also important to review what infrastructure is already in place, including networks, printing, connectivity and systems management.

Of course the true success of any solution is determined by how well it meets the requirements of the users, so the way they work, the peripherals they use and the locations they connect from must also be considered.

Centralis' structured approach to analysis and design gathers large amounts of data very quickly and organises it into documents which can be easily read and agreed by customer sponsors.  The resulting designs are clearly aligned to vendor best practice - instantly recognisable as quality documents suitable for external audit.

Centralis Analysis Services

The two key components of the Centralis Analysis Service are outlined below.  Please note that for health checks and technical analysis (including QA / Audit / Compliance etc) please see our Audit, Upgrade and Optimisation section:

Requirements Analysis

The Requirements Analysis (R.A.) analyses the high-level project together with the technical and business requirements, concluding with the recommended next steps. It typically includes the following elements:

  • Overview & Executive Summary
  • Agreed Requirements
  • Outstanding Business Questions
  • Outstanding Technical Questions
  • Infrastructure Conceptual Design

Overall, the requirements analysis provides a high-level understanding of the customer's aims and objectives, together with a conceptual design of the entire infrastructure solution to match the projects characteristics and requirements.

A virtualisation readiness report can also be delivered via our Greenlight service (please see the Greenlight website for more details) which assesses the suitability of applications and desktops for delivery by VDI, streaming other virtualisation techniques.

Infrastructure Assessment

The initial phase of the Centralis Analysis Service typically involves qualifying the customer’s current infrastructure and requirements against established best practice and design principles.  The Infrastructure Assessment (or I.A.) concludes with a written report and presentation to the customer sponsor covering some or all of the following elements:

  • Existing application delivery methodology & environment
  • Directory Environment
  • Printing & Peripherals
  • Network Architecture
  • Clients / Workstations & Servers
  • Testing / U.A.T. Environment and processes
  • Systems Management / Change Control
  • Support Structure
  • Security
  • Backup / Continuity / Disaster Recovery
  • Data Storage
  • Training & Communication

Overall, the infrastructure assessment determines the readiness of the customers environment for the planned deployment and collects relevant information for the Design Service.

Centralis Design Services

On completion of the detailed Analysis, Centralis undertakes a solution design.  The Design Service creates a detailed Architecture document, which is used to plan and commission the subsequent Build & Test work, in which the production applications are deployed and the overall design is subjected to extensive testing to prove suitability for production deployment.  Key components of the Centralis Design Service are:

  • Client Delivery Architecture
  • Application Packaging & Delivery
  • Configuration Management
  • Load Balancing / Load Evaluators
  • User personalisation / Profile management
  • Application Integration
  • Directory Integration
  • Printing Architecture
  • Hardware Architecture
  • O/S Configuration and Lockdown

Centralis Deployment Services

On completion of the detailed Design, Centralis builds, tests, capacity plans and then deploys the solution. The Deployment Service builds from the Design to create a fully working, best practice compliant environment.  Key components of the Centralis Deployment Service are:

  • Server & VDI desktop o/s centralisation using Provisioning Server
  • Application integration testing / application isolation & streaming
  • Load testing and capacity planning
  • Pilot deployment for U.A.T. (user acceptance testing)
  • Patch and update management
  • Training of customer staff / development of management procedures
