How is a Citrix Solution Designed and Deployed?

Centralis specialise in strategic Citrix solutions.  The stages and components involved in best practice Citrix design projects illustrate our commitment to best practice and delivering high quality implementations for demanding customers.

Design & Deployment

Centralis has specialised in Citrix design and deployment since 1998. During that time Centralis has provided Citrix consultancy to over 30% of the top companies in the UK and established a unique place in the top tier of Platinum Citrix Solutions Advisors.  With solutions based on XenApp, XenDesktop and XenServer, plus Provisioning Server and application streaming, Centralis is well placed to help any organisation make the most of their investment in Citrix.

Citrix Solutions Design

As such, Centralis use a Citrix design methodology which is based on that used by the vendors consulting group themselves. This ensures that the finished Access solution is suitable for both the immediate use and also the long term strategic aims of the customer, as well as ensuring that all the necessary infrastructure elements and procedures are in place to support the solution in the long term.

Martin Lawson, IS Development Manager with RMC says "RMC initially engaged Centralis to overcome a major problem. They came highly recommended by Citrix Consulting Services and we were very pleased with the results of their work. RMC were particularly impressed with the skills of the Centralis consultants and with their commitment to getting us over our issues within the very tight deadlines. The success of the initial engagement gave us real confidence in Centralis’ knowledge and experience and we have gone on to use their services to develop our overall Citrix Access Strategy."

Centralis are committed to delivering projects on time and to budget, providing an end to end solution which includes more than just project management – it includes all the elements necessary to drive the project to complete success.

"We engaged Centralis because of their understanding of our needs and reputation for delivering on their promises. Their project met all our expectations, and we were confident enough in the quality of service provided to award Centralis the contract to manage the Citrix environment as an outsourced service."
Nick Atkins, Head of IT&T, University Of The Arts London

Key Elements of a Citrix Design

Some of the elements of our Citrix design and build process for Access solutions are:

Each of these areas is outlined in brief below:

Infrastructure Assessments

Most customer engagements for Centralis begin with an Infrastructure Assessment or IA. This is a structured process, part of the Citrix Consulting Methodologies, which evaluates the suitability of a customer’s environment for the successful deployment and use of Citrix solutions. This typically involves qualifying the customer’s current infrastructure and requirements against established best practice and design principles. The IA concludes with a written report and presentation to the customer sponsor covering the key findings of the exercise across twelve critical technology areas, such as Disaster Recovery, Systems Management and Printing.

Although Centralis carry out IAs, this is only part of the story. The real benefit comes from a detailed, on-site analysis by one of our experienced consultants. Optionally, the exercise can include a health check of the existing environment.

Centralis has carried out IAs for a range of Times Top 100 and other strategic customers, working both directly for the customer and jointly with Citrix Consulting Services.

Proof of Concept

Where the customer needs to prove delivery of some applications via a Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop or XenServer solution, a Proof of Concept environment may be required. This provides a small deployment suitable for initial validation and demonstration purposes, typically delivering applications which are critical to a project or business activity.

Typically, to keep costs low, a Proof of Concept environment will consist of a virtualised environment and the delivery of a limited set of manually installed applications.

A Proof of Concept is often undertaken at the conclusion of an Infrastructure Assessment prior to beginning a strategic Design.
