Mid-Sussex District Council to deploy a virtualised Citrix
Access solution
Centralis has recently worked with Mid-Sussex
District Council to deploy a virtualised Citrix Access solution. The
project included virtualising Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 with Citrix
Secure Gateway and Web Interface on Virtual VMware ESX severs based on
HP blades.

The project combined Citrix and VMware technologies to create a more
resilient solution for the Mid-Sussex District Council.
The Customer
Mid Sussex District Council came into being in 1974. Covering an area
of 128 square miles and a population of approximately 126,000, it serves
as one of the 7 District and Borough Council’s representing the County
of West Sussex. The Council now has 500 employees and a yearly budget of
about £10.8 million for the provision of services for residents and
businesses.
Virtualising Citrix
The project was designed to increase resilience and improve business
continuity provision for the council, by allowing them to move their
Citrix environment to new servers seamlessly in the event of any
hardware failure.
Working closely with Chris Bulley, Systems Support Officer for the
Council, Centralis deployed the complete access solution, including a
number of standard office and council line of business applications,
such as Microsoft Office, Academy, Caps Uniform, Acrobat, GroupWise and
EMS.

Commenting on the project, Chris Bulley said "We've worked with
Centralis on Citrix projects in the past and been very happy with their
standard of work and documentation in particular, so they were our first
choice when we wanted to try the virtualisation route. Centralis
combination of VMware and Citrix qualifications gave us further
reassurance that they would be up to the task and the whole
virtualisation project was completed on time and to budget. The result
for the Council is that we have a reliable, easy to manage, scalable
VMWare Citrix Farm, with inbuilt flexibility to help us move to the
future."
Neil Burton, Government Sector Solutions Manager for Centralis, said
"Mid Sussex Council saw an opportunity to combine Citrix and VMware
technologies to create a more resilient solution for the Council.
Centralis were very pleased to be able to support the council in making
their virtualisation vision a reality."
