Centralis and the British Psychological Society increase efficiency and improve security

A recent Centralis project with the British Psychological Society has just finished which has increased efficiency and improved security for the Leicester-based professional body.

The British Psychological Society (BPS) was formed in 1901 and is the representative body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. It currently has over 43,000 members and was granted Royal charter in 1965.

The British Psychological Society

Overview

In 2005 the Society implemented Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 with Web Interface and Secure Gateway. However, they ran into some issues which they were unable to resolve in-house and they was a concern that the system might not be as efficient or as secure as it should be. In late 2005 they contacted Centralis to run a health check; in which they reviewed the system against all Citrix best practices to review and issues. They also reviewed the system against Centralis' own best practices which quickly identified areas for improvement. The detailed report which is produced provides a diagnostic analysis of the customers; environment in a very short time.

Neil Burton, at Centralis commented: 'Once the health check was complete we presented a comprehensive report which made recommendations on how to improve security and efficiency, as well as resolving problems they were experiencing.'

We used enterprise diagnostic tools developed in-house. such as Centralis Harvester, and structured business methodologies to identify the weaker areas of the environment and issues that needed resolving

The Customer

The British Psychological Society is charged with national responsibility for the development, promotion and application of pure and applied psychology for the public good, and with promoting the efficiency and usefulness of Society members through a high standard of professional education and knowledge.

Citrix Environment

In 2006 The British Psychological Society engaged Centralis further to implement the recommendations made, rebuilding the environment based on the quality information gathered.

This included an upgrade of Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 from the existing Standard Edition to the Advanced Edition. This provided the Society with a much more stable and efficient environment as well as being scalable to allow future organisational growth.

Centralis also rebuilt the Web Interface solution to provide optimal performance and increased security for their users all over the country.

Neil commented: 'Even though The British Psychological Society are one of our smaller clients they were able to take advantage of a packaged service providing knowledge, tools and processes Centralis have with working for larger corporate clients at a realistic cost'

The British Psychological Society now have the confidence that their Citrix environment is secure, scalable, efficient and built to best practice.
