Case Study

Centralis delivers the perfect blend for Twinings

Twinings first started business in 1706 and by using their blending expertise they have created high quality teas that now, nearly 300 years later, are enjoyed in over 100 different countries across the world.

Overview

Hampshire-based Twinings first approached Centralis in early 2005 to assist with their Citrix environment on a project basis.

A subsequent Centralis health check identified a number of issues affecting the performance of the existing environment and also highlighted the system and security enhancements available through Citrix Presentation Server 4.0.

Citrix Environment

The Centralis team recommended the Enterprise Edition of Presentation Server 4.0 as it offers advanced application delivery features as well as full management and reporting functions.

We were looking to make access to our system more flexible, but did not want to compromise either security or quality of service to the users. The solution provided by Centralis is the perfect blend of all three.

Centralis was subsequently invited to use its proven experience to design and build a new solution, from locations outside the company network provided by Citrix Access Gateway with Advanced Access Control. The unique 'Advanced Access Control' functionality enables Twinings to create rules which not only control which users and which computers can access their network, but also define exactly what they can see and do when they are authenticated and connected.

Comprehensive analysis of the client is carried out in seconds, analysing the characteristics of the remote device such as its location and whether certain processes such as firewalls and anti-virus are running and up to date.

Access to data, applications and functions such as printing can all be made conditional on how many tests the user and their computer pass- all carried out according to rules defined by Twinings.

Centralis based the project on experience gained through designing and deploying Advanced Access Control solutions since taking part in the first Citrix 'spearhead' early adopter program early in 2005.

Bob Gordon, Account Manager at Centralis commented: 'The new Citrix environment is designed to be flexible, scalable and extremely secure. It will provide Twinings with the flexibility to provide appropriate secure access to applications and data for its staff.'

Martin Attfield, Technical Project Manager at Twinings said: 'We were looking to make access to our systems more flexible, but did not want to compromise either security or quality of service to the users. The solution provided by Centralis is the perfect blend of all three.'
