About the
Customer
Solihull Community Housing is the name of the Arm's
Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up in April 2004 to run the
housing service on behalf of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
Solihull MBC is the local authority for Solihull,
situated in the geographical centre of the country - marked by a stone
cross on Meriden village green and first recorded c1170 in the Red Book
of the Exchequer. Solihull is a metropolitan borough in the
ceremonial county of West Midlands in the United Kingdom. Much of the
large residential population in the north of the borough centres on the
communities of Castle Bromwich, Chelmsley Wood, Fordbridge, Kingshurst,
Marston Green and Smith's Wood. To the south lie the towns of Solihull
and Shirley.
The
Challenge
Duty Managers were located at specific sites across
the borough, logging into and using dedicated PCs at each location.
|
" Solihull CHA & MBC provide invaluable services to the people within
the borough. The increased flexibility across this key group of staff
will serve to improve this even further. "

The Centralis
Solution
Working with leading independent consultancy
Centralis, Citrix XenDesktop has been installed, enabling duty managers
to work from any site within the borough. Introducing a far greater
degree of flexibility, the system allows registered users to securely
log into their virtualised desktop from any location. The system is
predicted to increase overall workforce efficiency by removing the need
for a duty manager to be present at every location all of the time.
After consultation with Centralis, Citrix XenDesktop
was selected as the preferred solution due to its flexibility and
performance.
Installation took place at the end of October 2008
and the solution is expected to go live in early 2009. “We have worked
with Centralis and the Citrix product set for a number of years and for
this latest project decided to implement XenDesktop as it fitted our
needs perfectly at this particular time,” said Ken Wilkes, senior
technical consultant at Solihull MBC.
The
Benefits to the Customer
“We have further plans to work with Centralis in the
future, so I look forward to seeing the full benefits of the VDI
deployment over the coming months”.
“Solihull MBC provides invaluable services to the
people within the borough. The increased flexibility across this key
group of staff will serve to improve this even further,” said Ewen
Anderson, director at Centralis. “The project has gone from proof of
concept to installation in a very short space of time, demonstrating the
adaptability and power of this new way of delivering desktops to users.”
