About the
Customer
The State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook
University Medical Center (SBUMC) is a 540-bed hospital that is
progressive in its medical care and its IT practices. It has the only
Level 1 Trauma Center on Long Island and, despite being less than 30
years old, is the largest hospital in the county.
The
Challenge
Citrix XenApp servers host many of SBUMC's clinical application
systems, which are accessed by over 5,000 users. Administering the
applications became time consuming creating a heavy workload for systems
administrators.
"As in typical Citrix environments, we would manually publish and
un-publish applications. Our applications can number in the hundreds
across various environments. Thus causing a very slow and painful
process to publish the apps," said Harbinder Singh, Systems
Administrator at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

un-publish applications quickly and efficiently.”

Solution
SBUMC investigated various solutions and discovered Centralis®
Harvester™.
Developed by Centralis as part of their 10 years of providing Citrix
managed services, Harvester was designed by Citrix administrators to
simplify the key tasks required for effective management of Citrix
farms.
Harvester offers a simple, easy to use interface, with menu driven
options and highly flexible reporting and made an excellent fit for
SBUMC's large environment, which includes more than 40 Citrix servers.
After downloading the evaluation software from the Centralis website,
Singh commented "Harvester was the simplest and most robust product in
the marketplace. Once we demoed the application, we knew this was
something we were in need of.”
